last summer my camera was stolen from me while staying at a friends house on tour. over the next few months i complained about the theft, the way it was stolen, and the fact that i am left without a camera. a few months later i traveled home for the holidays and my dad gave me a gift; and GE 12.2 megapixel point and shoot camera, model W1200. it came in one of those clear, really hard to open packages that are displayed hanging along with the camera accessories and phone cards. my pops informed me that the guy told him it was a good one and that is american made. it is made in china of course, but i didn’t have the heart to tell him that. the camera is fine, takes photos, shoots little movies, has some filters, blah blah. the function i found most interesting is the panoramic function. you take one shot, the LCD screen displays the right or left edge of that shot, then same with the second. after all three shots are taken an annoying hour glass spins before your eyes and BOOM! a perfect panoramic shot. well sort of. the way the manual describe the function is; “wide-view photos are produced by stitching three images into a single-panoramic picture”. which pretty much sums up my first experiences with the function. the photos looked stitched. the internal program just takes the photos i take and does the best it can to make them look normal through it’s simple camera brain. problem is the camera obviously has never seen a human head. if it did it wouldn’t squish my friends heads so often. i decided to start taking photos using the panoramic feature on my camera and post them here. some i like, some i hate, some i am neutral about. but I am really interested in the way they capture the moment for me. why? because i can’t make the decisions. the camera makes the decisions but based of how well i can take the three shots. i could take the same three shots using a normal setting and then upload the photos, open up photoshop, and make them look like a perfect panoramic photo. but this is something different. instant. and some part of it is out of my hands. call it collaboration. enjoy.

it came in one of those clear, really hard to open packages that are displayed hanging along with the camera accessories and phone cards. my pops informed me that the guy told him it was a good one and that is american made. it is made in china of course, but i didn’t have the heart to tell him that.

well sort of. the way the manual describe the function is; “wide-view photos are produced by stitching three images into a single-panoramic picture”. which pretty much sums up my first experiences with the function. the photos looked stitched. the internal program just takes the photos i take and does the best it can to make them look normal through it’s simple camera brain. problem is the camera obviously has never seen a human head. if it did it wouldn’t squish my friends heads so often.
